K 2013: Netstal goes bigger, targets medical with expanded ELION range

Netstal will mold polycarbonate infusion devices at K 2013 on a ELION 1750-530 with a cycle time of approximately 16 seconds from a 16-cavity tool in Hall 12 Stand A51. Netstal has announced plans to expand the ELION range at K, adding an approximately 430-ton hybrid drive machine and a 225-ton all-electric (ELION 2200).

Ferromatik celebrates the ‘international experience’ at K 2013

That's the outlook of Gerold Schley, managing director of Ferromatik Milacron and VP Milacron China. Schey noted that Ferromatik Milacron machines will be on display at the Mold-Masters and DME booths, and that all six of the machine exhibits are equipped with hot runner controls from Mold-Masters and DME.

Soft PA 610 targets tubing, pipe applications; an alternative to PA 12

Since BASF introduced the first glass fiber-reinforced PA610 injection molding grades of Ultramid S Balance at the K 2010 Plastics Trade Show, the material has found use in numerous applications because of its stress cracking resistance. Because of the current demand in the market and on the basis of its years of experience in extrusion, BASF has now decided to expand its PA 610 line of products to include extrusion grades. Kistler upgrades CoMo injection process monitoring system

Düsseldorf, Germany – Oliver Schnerr, head of the plastics business unit for The Kistler Group, said the company is heavily invested in highly precise injection molding.

At K2013, EcoPaXX, DSM’s castor oil-based polyamide 410 will be shown as one answer to the increasing need for the use of sustainable raw materials in buildings. EcoPaXX is a high- performance, 70% biobased polyamide, which offers excellent resistance to chemicals and hydrolysis and hence is suitable for numerous demanding applications. Earlier applications have mainly been in the electrical and automotive markets; the use of EcoPaXX in insulating profiles for aluminum windows marks this material’s first foray into the construction industry.

Not all that long ago, the interest of Germany’s chemical giants such as BASF, Bayer or Evonik in green chemicals and biopolymers could be described as tepid at best. Although developments in the area were followed, and a product or two developed in order not to completely miss the boat, were it ultimately to set sail, it was, as one sales manager put it: “Not where our business is.” Attitudes, however, can change quickly. “BASF intends to further expand its position in a market that is growing by more than 20% every year,” Martin Brudermüller, Vice Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF said at the company's pre-K 2013 press conference.

Reifenhäuser aims to eliminate the need for rewinding with new contact roll

Düsseldorf, Germany - Reifenhäuser has created a new contact roll for cast film winders that is designed to save producers a complete production step. At the K 2013 preview (July 1-3; Düsseldorf, Germany), Reifenhäuser said the new contact roll, with special micro structure for Midex rotary arm winders, will help cut production costs, enhance the winding quality and increase production safety.
