The forum is free and will be held on November 1 during the industry's major tradeshow, the K, in Düsseldorf, Germany. Presentations will be made by industry experts in the fields of recycling, energy reduction and biobased and degradable plastics. Organizing the event is the British Plastics Federation (BPF). The speakers will include Keith Freegard from Axion Recycling, Fred Pratt from CCS Technology and Andrew Barclay from Wells Plastics.

Film processors may want to arrive in Düsseldorf a few days early to attend this plastic films conference. Now in its 25th year, the annual Specialty Plastic Films conference will be the showcase for several premiers, according to the event's organizers. SPF 2010, organized by Maack Business Services, will be held in Düsseldorf at the Hilton Hotel on Oct. 25-26, immediately before the K kicks off on Oct. 27.

The K show runs October 27 through November 3, 2010, and organizer Messe Düsseldorf is expecting about 3000 exhibiting companies and a good deal more than 200,000 visitors. You now can order your tradeshow entrance tickets online at k-online.de, with prices the same as for the 2007 show: €49/person, €6 less than if you wait and purchase them at the gates. You can also order your show catalogue online for €22, with those mailed in September–far enough in advance for you to plan your visits.

Injection molding: Flexibility to the fore

Making its debut at K 2010 is a twin-screen control unit, called aXos, from injection molding machine machine manufacturer Netstal (Näfels, Switzerland). The upper screen includes a membrane keyboard for manual operation to show status, axis positions, and user-specific markings while the lower screen's main innovations include a free programmable sequence editor so a processor can build his own customized process sequence and will not have to rely on Netstal engineers to create a program specifically for the molding operations.
